Reference Books

Several reference books on energy efficiency exist and can be useful when considering energy efficient features in rehabilitation.

  • NASEO Home Energy Rating Technical Guidelines are the national home energy rating technical guidelines adopted by the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO).

  • No Regrets Remodeling book shows how new technologies and building practices can turn typical remodeling projects into opportunities for long-term benefits that add comfort and value to a home. The book describes how to avoid recurring problems (including drafts, overheating, mold and mildew, peeling paint, rotting roofs, and indoor air pollution), and demonstrate the advantages of integrating energy efficiency into any remodeling plan.

  • Energy Efficiency Manual by Donald R. Wulfinghoff is billed as a manual for everyone who uses energy, pays for utilities, designs and builds, and is interested in energy conservation and the environment. This manual takes a comprehensive look at energy efficiency. For contractors and consumers, the Energy Efficiency Manual is packed with hundreds of ways to lower energy costs and promote energy efficiency in homes and buildings.

  • The Plan Check and Field Inspection Guide can be used to ensure that building plans comply with the MEC or IECC and that the code requirements have been properly installed in the building.
