Once the household and income information has been established and verified, a PJ must then compare the information to the appropriate HOME Program Income Limits to determine if the household is eligible for participation in a HOME program.

In determining HOME Program eligibility, PJs must first ensure that they have a copy of the most recent HOME Program Income Limits tables, adjusted for household size and by geographic area (county or metropolitan area). The income limits are updated and distributed to PJs by HUD on an annual basis.

Below you will see a sample income limits table. (This table is not for official use.)

Current official income limits tables can be obtained by:

 -   Clicking here to view, print, and/or download the HOME Program Income Limits, or
 -   Contacting your local HUD Field Office.

To compare a household's annual income information to the official HOME Program Income Limits, follow these steps

 -   For the appropriate state, find the geographic area in which the PJ is located on the HOME Program Income Limit chart.
 -   Find the column that corresponds to the number of persons in the household.
 -   Compare the verified annual (gross) income of the household with the income limit for that geographic area and household size.

The table below is an example of an income limits table distributed by HUD annually.
SAMPLE - NOT FOR OFFICIAL USE
Area: Baltimore, MD FY 1998 Median Family Income: $55,600

  ADJUSTED INCOME LIMITS
  1Person 2Person 3Person 4Person 5Person 6Person 7Person 8+Person
30% Limits $11,700 $13,350 $15,000 $16,700 $18,000 $19,350 $20,700 $22,000
Very Low Income(50% Limits) $19,450 $22,250 $25,000 $27,800 $30,000 $32,250 $34,450 $36,700
60% Limits $23,340 $26,700 $30,000 $33,360 $36,000 $38,700 $41,340 $44,040
Low Income(80% Limits) $31,150 $35,600 $40,050 $44,500 $48,050 $51,600 $55,150 $58,700

Using the sample income limits table, consider the following example:

Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have three children that permanently reside with them. It has been determined by the staff of the PJ that the Jackson's have an annual household income of $42,500. Based on the income limits, the Jackson family must have an income of less than $48,050 in order to participate in the HOME Program. Since the Jackson's income of $42,500 is less than the Low Income Limit of $48,050, they are eligible for HOME assistance.
