CHDO Green NOFA Grants
Lake County Consortium, IL

The Lake County Consortium will use its grant award to fund two local Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDO) to construct 14 new homeownership units of ENERGY STAR certified housing. ENERGY STAR housing units must meet guidelines for energy efficiency established by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, and are at least 15 percent more energy efficient.

Youthbuild Lake County (YBLC) will construct four new single-family homes. Habitat for Humanity Lake County will construct ten new duplex units. All units will be certified by an independent HOME Energy Rater (HER) as meeting the ENERGY STAR criteria.

Lake County will ensure that its CHDOs also use sustainable site designs; install water conserving fixtures, energy-efficient appliances and lighting; use materials from renewable sources or with recycled content; use low VOC paints and sealants and formaldehyde-free composite wood; use mold prevention techniques; and give residents an instruction manual that provides information on how to maintain the Green features of their homes. All units will be affordable to low-income families
