Telecommuting Personal Screener

INSTRUCTIONS

Use this screener to determine your current readiness to be a successful telecommuter. It is organized according to 3 dimensions: Prerequisites, Skills, and Work Style. This screener will help you identify your strengths, as well as barriers that you may need to overcome.

Every successful telecommuter must have job knowledge and experience that can enable him/her to work independently. These factors are part of the following set of "prerequisites". Rate yourself on each of the factors listed below. (H=high M=medium L=low)

4. Self-discipline/ability to manage potential conflict between personal and work commitments H M L

WORK STYLE

Think about how your work style or personality is suited to working away from a traditional office environment. Your work environment will be much less structured and supervision, coaching, and feedback will likely be less readily accessible. Do you rely heavily on frequent support or input from others? Will you be a "fish out of water" working at home away from co-workers? Consider the following factors and rate them on a scale from High to Low.

1. Ability to work productively without needing supervision or frequent feedback H M L

4. Able to thrive in a work environment isolated from co-workers H M L
