MORTGAGEE LETTER 97-9
 
TO:  ALL APPROVED MORTGAGEES
 
SUBJECT:  Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) Regarding Mortgagee
          Letter 97-7 Regarding Referral Fees Charged by Companies
          for HUD Reverse Mortgages
 
     On March 17, 1997, HUD issued Mortgagee Letter 97-07  about
referral fees charged for reverse mortgages.  On March 26, 1997,
Judge Harold H. Greene, United States District Judge, granted a
Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) which temporarily enjoins the
Department from implementing or enforcing the terms of Mortgagee
Letter 97-7.
 
     This Mortgagee Letter serves as notice to all HUD-FHA approved
mortgagees that the Department will not implement or enforce the
provisions of ML 97-7  until further notice.
