The
District of Columbia Housing Authority
(DCHA) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the District
of Columbia by providing and effectively managing affordable housing
which is diverse, well maintained, and aesthetically pleasing for
those whose circumstances prevent them from competing in the general
marketplace.
The
Office of Resident Services (ORS) is the primary link between the
resident leadership and the agency. ORS partners with residents
and other organizations to develop meaningful initiatives to enrich
the lives of youth, adults, and seniors.
The
Do Your B.E.S.T. Summer Youth Employment Program stands for Building
Excellence through Service and Training. The goals of this program
are: (1) to give young people from public housing an opportunity
to experience work in the public and private sectors and (2) to
challenge them to grow professionally and personally from a structured
employment program that includes community service and youth leadership
principles.

Saturday,
September 22, 2007 - Youth from the B.E.S.T. program will
participate in a tour of the Kennedy Center and educational session
about career opportunities in the field of opera after the La Bohème
simulcast. DCHA and Washington National Opera will host this event.
DCHA
has partnered with the Washington National Opera to host this project
in Washington, DC:
Washington
National Opera in conjunction with the Kennedy Center for
Performing Arts will host a tour of the Kennedy Center Opera
House to facilitate the youth participants' exploration of career
opportunities in the field of opera.

WNO
will present a simulcast performance of La Bohème on the Washington
National Mall, Sunday, September 23 at 2:00PM (EST). Youth from
the DCHA - B.E.S.T. program will attend the Mall simulcast, along
with residents from the DC Metropolitan Area.
