Who We Are

The Training Services delivers continuous learning to HUD employees. We are dedicated to delivering value in every program and customer interaction, focusing on employees and leadership and meeting their needs, while demonstrating the capability, confidence, and commitment of Training Services staff.

The office consists of Human Resources Development Specialists, Training Services Specialists, Program Analysts, Management Analysis Officers, and Training Technicians.   [Back to top]

What We Do

Our office establishes policy, administers and provides services in the following areas:

  • Course design and development of high priority Departmental training initiatives utilizing instructional systems technology
  • Annual needs assessment
  • Distance learning (satellite broadcasts and webcasts)
  • Executive development, supervisory and management training
  • Computer-based technical training development
  • Professional and career development and counseling
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Individual development plan workshops
  • Partnerships with outside academic institutions
  • Special employment training programs (i.e., Presidential Management Intern; HUD Career Intern; Upward Mobility)
  • Training Requests
  • Training conference planning and support
  • Organizational development intervention (i.e., team building, strategic planning, and problem solving)
  • Training program assessment

How We Operate

Training Services operates through three Institutes and a Policy and Operations staff:

  • Employee & Career Development Institute – Strengthens the core competencies of rank and file HUD employees and provide the foundation for further professional and individual career development.
  • Leadership & Management Institute – Builds supervisory, managerial and senior executive and leadership capability within the Department.
  • Program Technical Training Institute – Trains employees to successfully perform in the professional, technical and administrative areas that are identified in HUD’s workforce plan.

In addition to the three Institutes, Training Services has expanded its presence of online Just-In-Time (JIT) learning through the HVU. Today, HVU provides over 2,000 technical and soft skills courses in a web-based, self-paced learning environment.   [Back to top]
