HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan rolled up his sleeves in New Orleans to illustrate HUD's support of President Obama's "United We Serve" initiative. See "United We Serve" for ideas about serving our community, or for more about the White House partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service to encourage everyone to commit to sustained, meaningful community service from June 22 to September 11, a new National Day of Service and Remembrance *** HUD Secretary Donovan elected Chair of Interagency Council on Homelessness - commits to building "...a thoughtful and compassionate response to this crisis. In Newport News, there is a lovely EarthCraft® certified family home where there once was blight. A ribbon-cutting celebration on June 24th spotlighted the partnership between Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority, the Office of Human Affairs (OHA), the Peninsula CDC and Friends of the Homeless that brought the first affordable, EarthCraft® certified, modular home in Virginia into reality for Ms. Frances Cowles and her family ***
