HUD to Donate Excess Computers

The Houston HUD office is donating thirteen desktop computers and thirteen CRT monitors and ten laser printers, in accordance with Executive Order 12999 entitled "Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for All Children in the Next Century".

HUD will give the highest priority to elementary/secondary educational institutions, community-based educational organizations and eligible non-profit organizations located in Federal empowerment zones or enterprise communities.

Educational institutions, community-based organizations and eligible non-profits outside empowerment zones or enterprise communities will receive the next level priority consideration.

Requests for computer equipment must be in writing and accompanied by a statement of need. Requests must also identify the quantity needed.

All non-profits, including churches, will be required to submit a copy of their 501(c)(3) IRS ruling as well as their bylaws showing that their primary mission focus is education. Documentation to support that the institution/organization is located within a Federal empowerment zone or enterprise community is also requested.

Requests must be postmarked no later than July 9, 2008 and mailed to:
