Pecan Village in Baytown

The Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority (MHMRA) of Harris County recently celebrated the grand opening of Pecan Village housing complex of Baytown, Texas, an exciting new 4-building, 18-unit residential apartment center built specifically for people with mental disabilities. Pecan Village, a "Day of Caring" project, was financed in large part by a HUD grant.

"Day of Caring" are special community projects, specifically coordinated by The United Way. They involve local companies, their employees and retirees, donating time and energy to assist others with projects such as construction of Baytown's Pecan Village. Volunteers from Exxon Mobil, Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant and Baytown Olefins Plant participated in the Pecan Village project through the United Way, contributing and installing all the ceiling fans, storm doors, landscaping and sod. The Chevron Phillips Chemical Plant, LP - Cedar Bayou Plant also helped by donating computers.

Pecan Village Apartments is the second Section 811 complex completed in Harris County, and there is one more in the development stage, Villas at Bayou Phase II, Houston, Texas.
