On September 6, 2008, Salt Lake County and Community Development Corporation of Utah (CDC) jointly hosted a neighborhood block party and open house to celebrate the completion of their Idea House in Kearns, Utah. The CDC acquired the vacant house in February 2008, and remodeled it using Salt Lake County HUD HOME funds to create an example for the community of low-cost energy efficiency, water conservation, and visitable (accessible) best practices. The Bush Administration unveiled on October 1 additional mortgage assistance for homeowners at risk of foreclosure. The HOPE for Homeowners program will refinance mortgages for borrowers who are having difficulty making their payments, but can afford a new loan insured by HUD’s Federal Housing Administration (FHA).
