Directions to the Pittsburgh HUD Office

The following are driving directions to the Pittsburgh HUD Office. The building's entrance for the HUD Offices is located on 6th Avenue, approximately 200 feet past the Smithfield Street intersection. The address is 339 Sixth Ave. HUD's offices are located on the 6th Floor of the Heinz 57 Center.

From I-279 North (Parkway North):

Follow 1-279 southbound to the 1-576 exit (These are the far right two lanes for the Veteran's Bridge, which crosses the Allegheny River)
Take the 7th Avenue exit (keep right at fork in ramp) Ramp ends at a stop sign.
Proceed to the light in the left lane and turn left onto Grant Street.
Turn right at the first intersection, which is a traffic signal at 6th Avenue.
Drive north on 6th Avenue for two blocks to Smithfield Street
From I-376 East (Parkway East):

Follow Parkway East through the Squirrel Hill Tunnels.
Exit onto the Boulevard of the Allies exit (3rd exit after exiting the Squirrel Hill Tunnels).
After roadway reaches its summit and start a downhill descent, exit onto right fork to North I-579.
Stay left and exit left onto 7th Avenue, proceeding through an intersection with a stop sign.
Proceed to the light in the left lane and turn left onto Grant Street.
Turn right at the first intersection, which is a traffic signal at 6th Avenue.
Drive two blocks to the Smithfield Street intersection.
From I-279 South via the Fort Pitt Tunnels (Parkway West):

Proceed north on I-279.
Proceed through the Fort Pitt Tunnels until blvd. of Allies/Liberty Ave exit.
Keep left at the fork in the ramp.
Merge onto Liberty Avenue.
At 3rd traffic light, turn right (slight turn) onto 6th Avenue.
Drive two blocks to the Smithfield Street intersection.

Parking:

  • Lazarus Parking Garage - Located in the Lazarus Department Store Building, at the corner of 5th Avenue and Wood Street. Parking garage entrance is off Wood Street, on Oliver Avenue.


  • Mellon Square Garage - Block bounded by 6th Avenue, Cherry Way, Oliver Avenue, and Smithfield Street. Parking garage entrances are located on both 6th Avenue and Oliver Avenue.


  • Liberty Avenue Parking Garage - located adjacent to the Heinz 57 Center with entrances on Liberty Avenue and Smithfield Street. Entry from Liberty Avenue is recommended; the Smithfield Street entrance is normally closed during early morning hours.


  • The Heinz 57 Center and the Liberty Avenue Parking garages - are connected at the 6th Floor of the Parking Garage. This is also the rear entrance to the Duquesne Club. Proceed past the Duquesne Club, down a ramp, and bear right to the elevators. This is the 4th floor of the office building and HUD's offices are located on the 6th floor.


  • Remote parking - parking lots are available in the Strip District, approximately a 10 - 15 minute walk from the HUD office.

Parking is also available at 11th Street at Smallman Street across from the Valhalla Restaurant;
13th Street at Etna Street (closer to the Allegheny River); and
15th & Smallman Streets, Donzi's Restaurant lot. This lot provides shuttle service inbound until 9:30 a.m. and outbound service beginning at 3:00 p.m.

  • 11th Street at Smallman Street across from the Valhalla Restaurant;
  • 13th Street at Etna Street (closer to the Allegheny River); and
  • 15th & Smallman Streets, Donzi's Restaurant lot. This lot provides shuttle service inbound until 9:30 a.m. and outbound service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
