Ceremony Marks Revitalization in White Plains

Tuesday, June 10, 2003 marked the exciting unveiling of ten new or rehabilitated homes in Westchester County. County Executive Andy Spano, HUD Deputy Regional Director Carmen McCulloch, State Assembly-member Richard Brodsky, and State Senator Nicholas Spano, as well as representatives from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation, were in attendance to help celebrate this important event.

The building, renovation and/or rehabilitation of these homes signals another key step in the resurgence of several revitalized neighborhoods in White Plains, a city in Westchester County. Further adding to this progress, it should be noted that the homes were exclusively sold to families with incomes at or below eighty percent of the County median income of $73,100.

The ten residences noted on this day are located in two different neighborhoods in White Plains. Parkview Homes, consists of four newly constructed single-family townhouses; Cabot Avenue Homes is comprised of six single-family homes, including one rehabilitated home, one detached home and four attached townhouses.

Partnership and cooperation were essential in the development of these housing opportunities. In order to make this project successful, Westchester County utilized mainly HUD HOME Program funds totaling $873,000. In addition, the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation assisted with funding, and construction financing was provided by the Sound Federal Savings Bank.
