Partnering to Improve HUD Programs in New York

- -

HUD makes it a priority to carefully oversee its programs and guard the public trust in their operations. One way the Department does this is to train its business partners/funding recipients in program rules and requirements. To that end, the Department's New York Office of Public Housing coordinated audit training on September 20, 2007 for New York area public housing authorities. The purpose of this training was to help ensure compliance in public housing programs and to educate the authorities in HUD’s audit requirements and the steps to take to solve issues that could possibly result through an audit.

In attendance were over 67 executive directors, fee accountants, auditing firms, staff from HUD's own Offices of Public Housing, Community Planning and Development, Multi-Family Housing, the Office of the Inspector General, the Newark Hub, and the Office of the HUD Regional Director, NY/NJ.

Mr. Wendell Conner, Director, QASS (Quality Assurance Subsystem) and Jerrald Hite, Deputy Director, QASS from the HUD Real Estate Assessment Center provided training on OMB & A-133 audit requirements, Accounting for Mixed Finance transactions and the new reporting requirements under Asset Management. The training was extremely informative and provided an opportunity for Fee Accountants and Auditors to question the experts in the field.

For more information on future training opportunities in New York, please periodically check our local calendar.
