Officials celebrate breaking ground for the new Ozzie Wilson Residences in Brooklyn, NY

In early November HUD Regional Director for New York and New Jersey, Sean M. Moss, attended the groundbreaking of Ozzie Wilson Residences, a new 67-unit, senior citizen supportive housing development (HUD Section 202) in Brooklyn sponsored by the Brooklyn Information Coordinating Action Committee (BICAC). The new development, which received a $10.4 million HUD construction grant, contains 66 one-bedroom units and one two-bedroom unit for the resident superintendent. A community room and support service office space will also be provided in the development, as well as a part time service coordinator to assist seniors in accessing services. BICAC was established in 1977 as a neighborhood coalition made up of five block associations in Bushwick and focuses on housing advocacy and information, neighborhood preservation and housing development. Ozzie Wilson Residences will be built on property made available at below cost by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development and will be built by Michael Melnick and Company.
