Pictured left to right are Monmouth County Freeholder Robert Clifton, Brenda Edmondson from HUD, the HUD Newark Office Director Diane Johnson, Katie Schlechter, Katie's mother and father, and Scott Conover, Chairperson of the Monmouth County Fair Housing Board.

Sixth-grader Katie Schlechter was the Grand Prize Winner of the Monmouth County Fair Housing Poster Award Contest, which was celebrated at a ceremony in Eatontown, NJ. HUD Newark Office Director Diane Johnson and Newark Fair Housing Supervisor Brenda Edmondson spoke at the April 10th event, as did County Freeholders and the Chairperson of the County Fair Housing Board. Katie won a $500 savings bond for her poster, which carried the message "Fair Housing", and showed an outstretched arm holding an American flag bearing the words "Unity in the Community". Twenty-four other children received savings bonds for their winning posters. This was the 15th year for the poster contest, and 476 posters were submitted to support fair housing ideals. We congratulate Katie and all the participants for celebrating the diversity of their communities.
