The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials
(NAHRO), an independent housing advocacy organization, has announced
their 2004 Awards of Merit in Housing and Community Development.
Twenty-three projects in New Jersey, administered by the housing
authorities in Bayonne, Camden, Gloucester County, East Orange,
Hackensack, Irvington, Long Branch, and Paterson were recognized
with these prestigious awards.

Many of the operations of these housing authorities are monitored
and governed by HUDs Office
of Public and Indian Housing (PIH), a chief component of HUDs
overall goal of to ensuring safe, decent, and affordable housing
for low and moderate income people across the country.
