On Friday, December 29, 2006, the Jackson Housing Authority staff honored their Section 8 Landlords at an Awards Breakfast attended by approximately 80 people. There were many awards given out which included:

  • "Landlords who overcame The Biggest Hurdle"
  • "The Best Landlord Husband and Wife Team"
  • "Most Outstanding Management Company"

Milestones

The Jackson Housing Authority is making great strides in expanding affordable rental housing, improving the physical quality and management of their Section 8 rental housing. Notwithstanding, the Authority has administered the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program for only three years; they have wasted no time in establishing a rapport with the Section 8 landlords.

It is noteworthy that the Jackson Housing Authority and their Section 8 Landlords provided remarkable housing services to families during Hurricane Katrina. The Authority's management staff coordinated efforts between the Section 8 landlords and families to provide necessary and immediate housing services.

Highlights

A keynote speaker at the event, Gloria Smith, HUD's Public Housing Revitalization Specialist, provided detailed information on the characteristics of families assisted by the Authority's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Ms. Smith provided information to the Section 8 Landlords regarding their capability to access the Public Housing Information Center's (PIC) Resident Characteristic Report. In closing, Ms. Smith praised the Authority for maintaining a "High Performer' score for the past two years under the Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP) that HUD uses to evaluate the performance of housing authorities in administering the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.
