Structure prior to renovations

This once-proud Victorian gem, located in Biddeford, Maine, has been purchased by The Maine Way, Inc. (TMW), a community-based non-profit agency serving the Towns of Biddeford, Saco, and Old Orchard Beach. Once renovated, the structure will serve as a transitional residence for persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

In addition to receiving a HUD Technical Assistance Grant, The Maine Way, Inc. received funding from a variety of sources including the Maine State Housing Authority, The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston (Peoples Heritage Bank), Biddeford Housing Authority, Saco Biddeford Savings Institution, The Maine Association of Realtors Foundation, York County Community Action Agency, and numerous local residents and businesses.

Following renovations, targeted for completion in February of 2003, the residence will offer seven private rooms, live-in manager, and a computer/resource room. Residents will share common kitchen, dining and lounge areas. Resident services will be provided by a coalition of community service providers. For more information, contact Steve Ryan.
