Representing faith-based and community organizations, state/local government and nonprofit agencies, 70 people participated in a free grant writing workshop at the University of Connecticut's Stamford campus. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, attendees learned how to compete successfully for federal funds.

Lead by trainer Marilyn Diaz of HUD's Hartford Field Office, the 2-day "Art and Science of Grant Writing" workshop included organizational development and capacity building, proposal writing techniques, working with local governments, accessing federal funds and common factors for award. Participants enjoyed breakout sessions where each group had the chance to put into practice grant writing techniques that brought a sense of reality to the concepts taught. Upon completion of the course, all participants received a certificate of graduation.

New England Faith- and Community-Based Liaison Raymond A. Jordan coordinated the event. Visit HUD's website to learn more about Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
