How much time do you currently spend on maintaining/operating your
web pages?
The
answers varied widely, ranging from only a few hours per week to
30 hours per week. Most stated they spend around 5 hours per week
on web related duties.
2.
How much time is devoted to HUDweb/internal customers? And to HUD.gov/external
customers?
Most web managers indicate they spend more time on the hud.gov/external
external customers. A few said their time was evenly split.
3. Do
other people in your office regularly have web related tasks (e.g.
you've formed a committee of program area contacts)? Estimate the
time they devote.
By and large, web managers work independently. A few indicated they
have 'program contacts' from which to get information/ideas on what
to post on the web. However, no one indicated the function of a
regular working team.
4. Do
you feel the time you devote to web manager duties is adequate?
Almost everyone said they do not feel they spend enough time on
the web. However, several then followed to say they don't spend
enough time on anything-there's simply too much work to do.
5. What's
going well?
Again, a wide variety of responses. The three most common responses:
- Personal
education and learning of the related duties
- Tremedous
support from Candi and Phyllis and the technical team
- The
templates help a lot!
Additional comments:
- Everything. I simply LOVE doing the web management job...I
love the autonomy, the ability to be artistic and creative in
the job. I love the positive responses whenever I provide mini-training
sessions to the general public on the HUD Internet site.
- As an Associate Community Builder, I have easy access to information
that should be posted on the web
- The sites work and usage is growing
- The importance placed by the Senior Community Builder on the
importance of the web- both internally and externally
- Assistance to other employees as they learn to do more work
on the web
- [The web] is the most efficient way for HUD to communicate with
the world
- The web is definitely catching on-all kinds of clients are e-mailing
in
- People in the office are hyped about the possibilities for
using the web and are willing to provide info
- I think the entire web site has a good consistent look and
feel since HQ started mass remodeling of all local web site
- Full-time web managers in large HQ program offices
- Better system to handle e-mail to web managers
- Better communication between program areas so there isn't duplication
of effort
- More business processes online
- More resources for helping the web managers
- Education, training, open minds, mandatory management support,
training for managers and appointees on value of the web
- The CIO should outline the strategy pertinent to web operations
- Create a training curriculum to improve staff skills
- Assure that new IT initiatives provide for online business processes
and retrofitting of existing systems as well as new ones should
incorporate e-gov requirements.
